Dubrovnik’s Main Street Closed for Rehearsal before the Start of Filming

Tonight, the main street of Dubrovnik is closed for public from 8:00pm to midnight. This is a planned operation by the production of Star Wars Episode VIII and the official explanation is a rehearsal of some technical parts of the filming. Word around town is none of the actors are still here, although the reports vary. Still, this evening everything seems pretty calm and we are to expect the same on the 4th when another one of these rehearsals is being planned. Below are some photos published by a local news portal Dubrovacki Dnevnik of the situation around the set.

The same source reported earlier the filming itself might be prolonged until March 20th (it was supposed to be done by March 17th) and that apparently Dubrovnik is to play a very important role in Episode VIII.

  1. Wonderful updates, thank you! If a couple of Canadian girls were coming to town this weekend, very excited to see some Star Wars sights – any tips?

    1. Well, Old City historical centre is where all the main attractions are and running the length of the Old City is the main street – Stradun, the main filming location of Episode VIII in Dubrovnik. So, with regards to Star Wars locations, you will not be able to miss them. This weekend should see City Walls still open for visitors and they provide excellent views and photo ops – regardless of the filming. If you need any specific recommendations about anything to see or do while in Dubrovnik, feel free to send an email to info@starwarsdubrovnik.com with any questions. We’re local and know all the inside information you might need.
      Enjoy Dubrovnik!
