Long anticipation is over, we have the new Star Wars The Last Jedi official trailer!! Obviously, we were very disappointed at the beginning because we saw no new images of Canto Bight, casino city location that our hometown Dubrovnik is playing on screen. However, we have seen more intruiging plot hints than ever before.

From Kylo Ren engaged in a space ship battle with one of the ships carrying General Leia, to Finn fighting with Captain Phasma, real face of Snoke, and of course the end with Kylo Ren reaching out (literally) to Rey: it’s packed with exciting stuff and we can be sure Star Wars fans will be hard at work this week dissecting the entire clip trying to get as much information out of it as possible. I can hardly wait.

Thankfully the production decided to go all out with this one leaving more questions than answers and many hints at possible developments in the story. It is pretty much what trailers should be and we can be satisfied with it. I don’t sound very happy? Yeah, well…   no Canto Bight.

Earlier today Entertainment Weekly has graced us with some new and exciting photos from the upcoming Star Wars The Last Jedi. Croatian Star Wars Fans were undoubtedly most interested in a single photo of Canto Bight – casino city for which strong evidence suggests the setting was our beloved city of Dubrovnik.

This is the image as brought by Entertainment Weekly:

Aside from the fortress-look so characteristic of Dubrovnik’s historical centre (picture below), you can see the stone wall texture in the bottom of the image so prevalent in Dubrovnik’s scenery, as well as the fact the scene takes place during the night. To remind you, all the filming in Dubrovnik was done during the night!

Here I was, playing my PS4, enjoying the Saturday night with no obligations and nothing to do, when I get a message from one of fellow Star Wars Fans, Paul, to check out the new Behind The Scenes clip from The Last Jedi, just published by official Star Wars YouTube Channel.

The clip is great, watch it, enjoy it. However, it does feature something that has chilled me to the bone…   an image of my own hometown Dubrovnik and during the shoot:

We have heard plenty of rumours about what locations within Star Wars universe is Croatian city of Dubrovnik suppose to represent in the upcoming The Last Jedi. Lately, we’ve reported on Dubrovnik Times text about Dubrovnik playing casino city called Canto Bight. This was one of the most prominent theories and now it seems we have first concrete evidence this might easily be true. As reported by Official Star Wars YouTube channel,Vanity Fair released a photo set by the famous Annie Liebovitz with wonderful photographs of the cast and crew in costume, but also a few shots of the cast to appear in film as a part of the rich clients of a new location – casino city of Canto Bight. What intrigued us the most is the uncanny resemblance of the costumes to those seen on some of the images captured during the shoot in Dubrovnik, last year. See for yourselves…

Dubrovnik, Croatia was one of the two prominent filming locations outside of the film studios for Star Wars The Last Jedi. All of us local Star Wars Fans are counting down the days until the premier of the new chapter in our favourite saga. It will be an exciting day for us trying to catch a glimpse of our home town on the big screen. However, the latest news out of Dubrovnik suggests we might see Episode IX filming here as well!!

The Dubrovnik Times brings a story in which it is suggested that Dubrovnik’s participation in the story might not be limited to The Last Jedi. In the text the source of this interesting information is listed as none other than the city’s Mayor, so the story might have some validity to it. Seeing how Episode IX is due to come out on May 24th 2018, the filming will probably start very soon, so we will be following the developments closely and keep you updated!

Also, the same source is saying Dubrovnik is to play casino planet Canto Bight in The Last Jedi, which would go along with some gossip we already reported on.

New teaser trailer for the upcoming Star Wars The Last Jedi is finally out. With all the hype surrounding it, some feel as if it failed to meet expectations, but then again, who would ever meet the expectations of Star Wars fans? We will always want more.

For us at Star Wars Dubrovnik, the main question for the new trailer was: Will we see Dubrovnik on screen? The answer is sadly: No… most probably. The article on Star Wars Croatia website raises a question of whether or not we can see the dome of Dubrovnik Cathedral in one of the shots. This one:

It seems unlikely, as the landmark was not on the list of the filming locations, but possibly visible from the main street or Rector’s Palace. There is also a church dome of the Church of Saint Blaise – the patron saint of the city – that could be the one seen on the screen. The shape of this dome is maybe wider than that on screen, but its location is much closer to the main filming location in Dubrovnik – Stradun, the main street of the historical district. Below is the photograph of both with Cathedral in the background and Church of St. Blaise in the foreground.

Be that as it may, it seems we are doomed to wait until the next teaser trailer to maybe see our beloved town on screen, forever a part of the Star Wars Saga. Let the wait begin… again.

By now everyone knows Dubrovnik, Croatia was one of the key locations for filming of Star Wars The Last Jedi and we have plenty of photos to prove it. However, do you know what’s going on in Dubrovnik right now? Right now, the sets are coming down after shooting what promises to be another big Hollywood blockbuster to grace the streets of our hometown – Robin Hood.

Film, co-produced by Leonardo Di Caprio, starring Jamie Foxx and Jamie Dornan – both seen on set in Dubrovnik – is scheduled to premiere on March 23rd 2018 and seems to be destined for great results.

Production team used a few locations around the city and much like the crew of Star Wars The Last Jedi, they had to construct impressive backdrops for specific locations, one of them being on the historical centre’s main street – Stradun… yes, the same one that was featured on so many of the leaked shots from the making of the new Star Wars movie. Below are some pictures of the Star Wars sets vs. those of Robin Hood on the same part of the main street… which one looked better?
