Rey’s origins are one of the main mysteries surrounding the plot of Star Wars The Force Awakens, and it is likely this story will continue to play an important role in Episode VIII as well. It is without a question the Force is strong in her and she might easily turn out to be descendent of a Jedi. Of course, majority of the people are guessing she has some sort of family connection to Luke Skywalker as it was hinted in the movie. However, I’m not sure I even like that idea.

There is a very interesting theory on MoviePilot published by Jack Carr who claims that Rey is a Kenobi! Not only that, but his theory is that Rey is the daughter of Obi Wan Kenobi. He backs this up with a few reasons, but I found two to be the most intriguing.
First, Obi Wan Kenobi was known for his Jedi mind trick that Rey uses in The Force Awakens. Even though he was not the only one to use it, he is still in viewer’s mind the most prominent user of that power.
Second reason why Rey might be a Kenobi – and I love this one because it makes sense from a filmmaking point of view – Rey speaks with an English accent, as does Obi Wan. The way Rey speaks is no accident. Her accent is different from all the other main characters who all speak with an American accent. This is also true of all the Skywalker family members.

It’s an interesting theory, but one of the comments on the text raises a great point. If Rey is Obi Wan’s daughter, she should be around 40 or 50 years old if we roughly follow the time line. However, I don’t think this alone is the reason to dismiss a theory Rey is a Kenobi. Especially seeing how, she is the perfect age to be his granddaughter.
Oh yeah, and I didn’t forget Qui-Gon Jinn also speaks with an accent… kinda and also does mind tricks… kinda
